Eken Magazine

While Eken Magazine was staying at the very central and friendly Arora Hotel right in the heart of Manchester. We asked manager Laura Jane Fartworth a few questions about the hotel that Sir Cliff Richard once opened and where the stars of Manchester United have their cocktails.

1. Compared to other hotels in Manchester, what makes The Arora stand out?
Our staff are our hotels greatest asset and also our unique selling point and this is so evident in our reviews on independent sites such as Trip Advisor. We really encourage our team to be themselves and engage in conversation with our guests to find out what has brought them to Manchester and make recommendations so they make the most of their trip to Manchester. Arora is your home away from home!

2. What’s the typical Arora guest like?
We don’t really have a ‘typical’ guest as the city determines who is visiting at any particular time. We always have our aircrew clients who stay 365 days of the year but Manchester is a city with two stories as midweek it can be quite business orientated with people travelling to the city for conferences, meetings, and to work but then come the weekend it changes completely and our visitors are here to have fun, eat out, go shopping or go to a show or concert. Most of all Manchester’s greatest attraction is the football with two of the worlds greatest teams and whether you are a blue or a red supporter, you cant help but get caught up in the atmosphere!

3. What kind of facilities can you offer your guest?
We are a city centre property, contemporary in design, yet still maintaining the unique character of its grade-two-listed Heritage so I think we offer a great balance of old and new. We have 141 bedrooms which are all individual in shape and style as we are not a purpose built hotel. Our superior double double rooms are a real unique feature and can ac- commodate up to 4 people in the room so are ideal for a family get-away or a girly weekend away! We have a fitness suite onsite for those who want to maintain their fitness regime and for those who want some time off, our Bar & Restaurant, 24 Bar & Grill is the perfect location to over indulge in great food and cocktails.

4. When you’re staying at The Arora hotel, what can’t you miss?
A cocktail in 24 Bar & Grill – my recommendation is the Porn Star Martini!

5. When is your best season?
Around November & December is the best season in Manchester, there is so much going on in the city it just makes it such an exciting time to visit. The Christmas lights are turned on in the city at the beginning of November and then the Christmas Markets open mid-November which gives such a festive buzz. Alongside that there is always something going on around town, a big concert and there is always a few football fixtures to get excited about as well!

6. What’s the best places to visit located next to the Arora hotel?
I would highly recommend the Manchester Art Gallery just across the road from us. Open 7 days a week with late night opening on a Thursday evening. Exhibitions change regularly so you can visit every time you’re in Manchester and see something new each time!

7. What’s the story behind The Arora?
Arora hotels was built upon providing aircrew accommodation and we have built an excellent reputation within the industry for that. We have hotels in Heathrow, Gatwick as well as a new hotel currently being built in Central London. Manchester was opened at the request of British Airways who were looking for a Northern based crew hotel which is how Arora Manchester was ‘born’!

8. When did the hotel open up in Manchester?
The hotel opened its doors nearly 10 years ago now in 2004

9. Who opened up the hotel?
The hotel was officially opened by Sir Cliff Richard, Cilla Black, and Gloria Hunniford on 19th June 2004

10. Is Sir Cliff Richard still involved in the hotel?
In that case, in what way? No Cliff is not involved in the hotel. He is a very close personal friend of Surinder Arora the founder of Arora Hotels.

11. For how long has the 24 bar/grill been a part of the hotel?
24 Bar and Grill has been open since October 2011, previously it was know as Obsidian which was particularly popular with Manchester United footballers! 24 Bar and Grill retains its popularity and serves some of the best cocktails in the city
