WKNDR STHLM - WEEKENDER STOCKHOLM - EKEN MAGAZINE - STOCKHOLM GUIDE

 * MODERN FAST FOOD * SHOWS * SKIING * FILM PREMIERE *

Once again I hope your weekend was full of new experiences after following our hand-picked top choices to finish off January in style. As we swiftly move into a new month along with it comes an array of new ideas for families, friends, couple or even individuals to do on their weekend and ensure they start the following week on the back of some great memories.
Here are the list of gems we have found this week:

1. FILM PREMIERE
CREED | THE LEGACY OF ROCKY – SF BIO
5/2

Another week and another blockbuster coming to Stockholm’s screens. After being blown away by the Revenant last week it’s time for the comeback of Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky in “Creed”. Portraying the struggles between a life away from the struggles and his overflowing need to follow in his father’s footsteps, Adonis Johnson (Michael. B Jordan) forms an unlikely partnership with his father’s old friend and advisory in the ring, Rocky. The film expertly plays on the determination and drive against all odds of Donnie’s fight for what you want in life, stupendously coached by the former fan’s favourite hero Rocky Balboa who is fighting his own battle with the shock news that he has non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Hard-hitting, gritty and fierce with a plenty of pulling on the emotional heart-strings, this movie has plenty to keep audiences gripped from beginning to end.

2. FOOD & DRINK
TEATERN RINGEN | SKANSTULL
5/2

After opening on 5th December in Skanstull, the food scene has had its world turned upside down. Known in English as the “Theatre of Rings” the new food hall boasts nine of the best and most renowned chefs and one acclaimed pastry chef living in Stockholm. Magnus Nilsson, Maximilian Lundin, Stefano Catenacci, Daniel Roos, Adam Dahlberg and Albin Wessman, Marco Baudone, Claes Grannsjö, and Linus Ahlstedt and Michael Gröndal have all come together to provide customers with a variety of the finest cuisines all battling one another in what could only be symbolised as the Pantheon of culinary glory. The theatre boasts a giant 250 seats for all customers to sit and compare the aromas and aesthetically scrumptious dishes, whilst soaking in the flurry of conversation and mutual love of food. At prices which are fit for any budget and a variety of cuisine ranging from Asian dishes to traditional Swedish delicacies the Teatern Ringen really does have something for everyone looking for a luxurious meal at an affordable price!

3. ATTRACTION
ROOM ESCAPE STOCKHOLM
6/2

Rapidly making a name for itself as one of the most popular activities to do around the world, we thought we would take a look and make “escape rooms” one of our top five of the week. Voted in the top ten things to do in Stockholm on Trip Advisor and with 6 escape rooms dotted around the city, Room Escape Stockholm takes the crown as being the most interesting and exhilarating place to go with family or friends. Given a choice of three scenarios (Trying to rob a bank, stopping a nuclear launch and surviving the zombie apocalypse) your group is given a set of clues to unravel the mystery with only 60 minutes in which to do so. As the time ticks down, the intensity, the frantic scramble to unlock the next clue and unending amount of fun reach breaking point as the investigators discover whether they have solved the mystery and have survived the escape room. A real bargain, a great choice of scenarios and fun for the whole 60 minutes, the escape room is truly a must for the weekend!

4. STAGE & THEATRE
HOKUS POKUS MOTHERF*CKERS | BERNS
6/2

After shooting to fame on the backs of their original and unexplainable magic tricks on British television’s Penn & Teller: Fool Us! Brynolf and Ljung have quickly established themselves as one of the world’s best magic duos. Having made their name abroad, they quickly got the recognition they deserved in Sweden and have since delighted audiences on TV4 with a number of enthralling episodes. Together, the dynamic duo aim to push the boundaries of normality and wow their audiences with a variety of illusions, special effects, psychological manipulation and fast fingers. The new guys on the block have certainly made their mark across the globe and have returned home to leave their spectators encapsulated, mesmerised and utterly bewildered all at same time. Their show finally returns to Stockholm, and with the opening performances happening this Saturday, and the first show already sold out, it would certainly be a mesmerising experience to never forget if you purchased the few remaining tickets to the Saturday evening performance.

5. OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
SKIING AT VÄSJÖBACKEN
6-7/2

As the weather can’t make up its mind on whether we are going to have snow or slush this weekend, why not take advantage and get down to the ski slopes before it all disappears for the year. Well known for its man made slopes, dream park, cross-country trails and Snowmobile tracks, Väsjöbacken has snow-filled fun activities for all the family. Reasonable prices, the opportunity to even have your kids in skiing lessons and the chance to snowboard before going inside for some warm food or a cold drink, what better way to spend the day than cutting through the powder and have bags of fun!

EXTRA GEM FOR THE WEEK
HUMOUR SHOW
CAPITOL COMEDY CLUB
5/2

If you are up for a night of humour and a bit of a laugh with friends, then the newly opened Capitol Comedy Club is the thing for you. Built to house some of the best comics in the city, audiences are treated to a number of skits, improvisation sessions, stand up shows and a few musical numbers thrown in for good measure. Featuring the particularly hilarious Ann Westin as the headliner this Friday night, visitors have already been told to prepare for a rip roaring 2 hour show that will bring the house down and with it everybody’s ability to walk home without pain in their sides from laughing too much. New club, new comedy scene, a wide variety of drinks and all at a reasonable price, The Capitol Comedy Club is definitely worth trying out on a gloomy and cold Friday night.
